The Guernsey Retro Festival is organised by the charity Guernsey Revival. The aim of the festival is not only to be a fantastic event for Guernsey but importantly to raise money for three local charities.
Everyone with a mental health condition has their own experiences and needs, not one approach fits all. By encouraging a better understanding of mental health issues within our community we make it easier for people to get the right help, as early as possible. We believe in an individuals resilience and ability to recover if given access to the right support options, these include self-help, talking therapies, medication and a supportive work and family environment.
The focus of Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) is to increase awareness and promote education around the symptoms and treatment of prostate, bowel and testicular cancers.
Funds raised are also used to improve the diagnosis and care of local men suffering with male cancers.
Male Uprising Guernsey aims to get men, whatever their age, to be more confident, outgoing and questioning of their health symptoms. Most importantly, we encourage men to seek medical advice and assistance at the earliest opportunity – as procrastination or delays can have deadly consequences.
A Men’s Shed is a larger version of the typical man’s shed in the garden – a place where he feels at home and pursues practical interests with a high degree of autonomy. A Men’s Shed offers this to a group of such men where members share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing at their own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue. They are places of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction. A place of leisure where men come together to work.
The Men’s Shed in Guernsey is a traditional vinery packing shed that we’re bringing back to health. Once finished, the Shed will provide any man in Guernsey a space to go and work on any project in a welcoming and well equipped workshop.
Shed activities might involve making or mending in woodwork, metalwork, growing, bike repair, electronics, tool renovation, boat building, model engineering …anything you like!
Women, fret not! We’re co-located and co-creating with Makerspace Guernsey so everyone can gain from the facilities on offer!
